Three weeks in Suriname this October — send me your suggestions
This October I’m going to Suriname for three weeks, and I have not been this excited about a trip in a long time.
I’m deliberately not over-planning it. I’d rather arrive with a loose shape and a list of things people who’ve been actually loved — markets, rivers, food, the bits you only hear about from someone who’s been. So this post is half announcement, half open request.
What I’m hoping to do
- Paramaribo properly — the old town, the markets, the food, an unhurried few days to get my bearings.
- Get out of the city and into the interior — the rivers and the rainforest are the whole reason this trip jumped to the top of my list.
- Eat my way through as much as possible. Surinamese food is one of the great under-celebrated cuisines and I intend to take that seriously.
- Leave room for nothing. Three weeks is a luxury; I want unstructured days in it.
This is where you come in
If you’ve been — or you’re from there — I’d love your suggestions:
- Where should I absolutely go, and where is overrated?
- Best way to organise a trip into the interior in October (rainy/dry season tips very welcome)?
- One meal I shouldn’t leave the country without eating?
- Anything you wish someone had told you before you went?
Drop me a line — my contact details are on the home page. I’ll report back here afterwards, probably at unreasonable length and with too many photos.
